A few things

  • I cleaned up my blog reader and blog roll.  I’ve pared it down to 39 blogs on the reader, which sounds like a lot, but I deleted about 10 or 12 of them, so it was even more!  I just had to re-prioritize my time spent reading, although I felt like a bad bloggy friend deleting blogs…  I hope none of them were yours!!  Also, some blogs were on the WordPress reader, and some were on the Sage/Firefox reader.  Apparently, reading blogs in TWO different places was too difficult for me, so I consolidated them.  There are only 21 blogs on my official blogroll on the right.  A few are new;  you might wanna give ’em a gander.
  • It is so lovely to be having a cool snap in the Phoenix area the last couple of days.  I had to shut the windows earlier today, because it was 67°F in the house, and getting cooler.  I’m enjoying it, because I know the heat will be here far too soon!  And, I’m happy for our electricity bill, as we’ve only had the AC on for two days so far this year!
  • It looks like the EIGHTEENTH TIME is the charm!!  My gluten-free, dairy-free, egg-free, vegan, whole-grain, rice-free, corn-free, millet-free bread recipe-tweaking is now DONE.  Seriously.  Eighteen batches.  Finally, I have some results that I’m very happy with.  95% happy with, but that’ll have to do, as it may be impossible to achieve the perfection I’m looking for, whilst still disincluding ingredients I need to leave out.  95% is still an “A”, right???  In spite  of it being “free” of nearly everything, it is surprisingly tasty bread, with to-die-for crust, works great for sandwiches, nice high rise, very healthy…  Mmmm…  Recipe to be posted soon.
  • My mom is very ill and in the hospital.  She is having severe trouble breathing — when she arrived by emergency transport, her pulse ox was at 78%.  The doctors just can’t seem to agree upon/figure out what is wrong with her.  First, it wasn’t pneumonia or emboli, but they didn’t know what it was.  Then, it was pneumonia.  Then, it was pneumonia plus something else, possibly bronchitis.  Now, they’re saying that maybe it’s not pneumonia nor bronchitis, but they still don’t know what it is.  My mom is very feisty… quietly stubborn.  She wants desperately to go home;  she’s been in since Monday afternoon.  But, obviously, she needs to be able to breathe.  Dear Jesus, help my Mommy, and give wisdom and supernatural insight to the doctors.

I like birding, reading, writing, organic gardening, singing, playing guitar, hiking, the outdoors, and books. I very casually lead a very large group of homeschooling families in the Phoenix area. 1. Saying a prayer for your mom!!!!

(btw, I’m really pleased that I’m still on your blogroll! *smile*)

    • Thank you for your prayers, Daja.

Like I would ever remove you. I wish you were my neighbor!! (And not just for your yard, either.)

BTW, my hubby and I had a date night this past weekend, and talked about my goal of becoming a certified doula… I mentioned that there are MANY more frequent classes in California than in the Phx area, and that if I took a weekend course in CA that I had a place to stay… It’s been a long time since we talked about that, so I hope that’s not too presumptive!!!!!!!!

  2. Jessle the Dog Walker

Stumbled on this post and I’m interested to see the bread recipe – I’ll keep checking back for it!

  3. I would love to see a pic of the bread (or the recipe if you’re sharing!)….. I just made this one this week and I LOVE it!

I used quinoa instead of oats b/c I can’t do oats. I also didn’t do brown sugar b/c I don’t do sugar. (I did use just enough to bloom the yeast however)

  4. p.s. I will let you know when I have an actual blog again. I so miss my old one… but for reasons I can’t share publicly it wasn’t a good idea anymore. I am working on getting one together (still!) but with packing it’s just so on the back burner…

    • Laura! Somehow I missed that you have an only-food blog!!! I never knew!!

I’ll be posting the recipe with pics likely tomorrow.

      • Me again. I checked out the recipe you made. The flat-top effect, similar to the bread in that author’s pics, is what I struggled with. I was finally able to craft a recipe that actually RISES and doesn’t look like banana bread. 🙂

  5. Oh, I REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY hope you come to the Los Angeles area for your classes!!!! That would be so awesome! You are welcome ANYTIME!

  6. Lord, I ask that You would help the doctors figure out what is going on with Karen’s mom. Continue to strength her. May she go home soon without any more complications or issues. Amen.

I follow so many blogs, so I totally understand the guilt of removing one from your reader. But if I’m not reading the posts anyway, shouldn’t I be free to move on? …yes, I should. But that doesn’t mean that I don’t leave them in there “just in case” [smile]. I’m glad you’ve been able to simplify! Stick with the things that interest you, and walk free from the social pressure of the social media!

  7. I need to pare down my blog reader as well!

I said a prayer for your mom!! I hope they figure it out soon!!

I’m also on the list of those who cannot wait for your bread recipe. 🙂

  8. newbeginnings09

Praying for your mom!! And, I REALLY REALLY hope you go to Cali to become a doula too, one because it sounds like Daja wants you to so very much 🙂 and, two because you would make an awesome doula.
I started those classes years ago. Like 8 yrs ago. I ended them though, when I ended up with my 2nd csection. Who wants a doula that’s never given birth naturally? Sigh.

    • The doula world still needs you!

I’ve doula-ed for several c-sections, some planned, some “emergency.” (not life-threatening) Women having c-sections can still really benefit from having a doula!

PLUS, there is the whole world of post-partum doulas! I’ve done this for new parents as well. A post-partum doula can be a total God-send! We help with everything from breastfeeding help, housework, shopping, nutrition, teaching care-of-a-newborn and early parenting, etc.

Doula certification programs have courses especially for post-partum doulas.

  9. I hope that they soon figure out what is wrong with your mum and make her well again. I can well imagine how disconcerting it must be to see her in such an unfamiliar environment and uncomfortable and unwell condition. Many prayers for good news next time you update your blog. xx

  10. Wow!! What IS in this bread? I’m very curious to know! Congrats on your achievement!
