I’m not surprised at this, either

I’ve known for a number of years, actually, that I’m an ISTJ.  I’m not quite as dependable as a full-blown ISTJ.  I have too much “P” in me.  😀  But, I sure feel badly — AWFULLY — about it when I let anyone down!!!  I also have a tad more creativity than most ISTJs, and I have enough “P” — or something — that I really, really resist going with the flow, getting in a rut, doing the same thing as everyone else, etc., which is something that ISTJs usually don’t mind.

This may sound ridiculous, but this kind of test saved my marriage and my sanity.  I went from swaying back and forth between the extremes of, “I’m right and he’s wrong” to, “There’s something wrong with me!  I must be seriously messed up!!!” to understanding that there are different ways to recharge, take in information, process it, value it, etc.  And, not one of them are RIGHT;  we’re just all different.  True to type, this test (Jungian or Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator) became an extremely useful tool in understanding myself and those around me.

Fun.

Thanks to Sue for the widget on her sidebar for reminding me about this!!

About Karen Joy

I'm a partially-homeschooling mother of six -- 3 boys ages 19, 17 and 15 years old, and three girls: 11, 8, and 3. I like birding, reading, writing, organic gardening, singing, playing guitar, hiking, the outdoors, and books. I very casually lead a very large group of homeschooling families in the Phoenix area. I have a dear hubby who designs homes for a local home builder and who is the worship pastor of our church. I live in the desert, which I used to hate, but now appreciate.

  1. So I took mine – not a big shocker either! I am Extroverted, Intuitive, Feeling and Judging (Mentor). It’s kinda crazy how those tests can just nail ya! 🙂

  2. My letter combination has shifted through the years… I used to have the makings of an intense leader. Now? Not so much. It’s odd.

    • I have to be careful how I take the test, or my letters would change, too. I have to be careful to answer out of what comes naturally to me, instead of answering for what I have developed a value for. (Scrambled grammar; I hope you understand.) Like the justice and mercy thing. I am a billion times more likely to show mercy than I was 10 years ago, and I CRAVE mercy, and value it intensely, so it kills me to pick “justice” over “mercy” in the test — but I still have to admit that, in my natural bent, I am more justice-oriented than flowing with mercy.

So, that’s what I would suggest. Take it according to your basest, most natural bent, instead of what you’ve learned a value for, or instead of what you think the right attitude/right answer/most Biblical/whatever is.

Oh boy, I’m the overseer, teacher person. I want to think I’m flexible and compassionate but I’m strict and only flexible within a set of rules and plans. Sigh, I AM my mother! 🙂 Another fun thing is to see how your spouse scores you and compare – if you can get along while doing that!!!

  4. I found this “test” very hard to complete. I am an ISFJ. Very hard to answer concretely one or the other. I’m sure that says something.

I too have changed over the years….I first took it in high school and ever since then I have been fairly consistent. Think I was still figuring out who I was…not what other people thought I should be therefore tried to be.

Hmmm…am I daring enough to have my hubby answer these for me????
